Description

In the limited-edition Borderline product line, the House of Darroze demonstrates the aging expertise it has gained over approximately 50 years – using brandy that is refined in wine or spirits casks. While this finish prevents it from being bottled as Armagnac, the so-called "Brandy Français" reveals new flavor potential from France's oldest spirits region.

Two new additions to the series demonstrate this. The Borderline Brandy Français – Porto Blanc Finish is based on 2018 Armagnacs made from the Baco grape variety. After six years of maturation in classic casks, the fruity distillate was transferred to white port casks in January 2024. In these casks, the brandy quickly found new balance and finesse: delicate aromas of honey, blossoms, and anise combine with bright fruit and almond butter, supported by silky, rich tannins.

The Borderline Brandy Français – Rivesaltes Finish also changed barrels after six years. Darroze used Rivesaltes Casks for the finishing process. These "Vins doux naturels de Rivesaltes" are made from the red Grenache Noir grape variety and are characterized by roasted aromas and candied fruits. After one year, the brandy combines the spirited character of the original with the winey nuances of the sweet wine. The result: an intense, sumptuous experience where dried fruits, quince compote, and candied orange peel meet gingerbread, olives, roasted coffee, and chocolate.
