Glenglassaugh Portsoy
Special features: The Glenglassaugh Portsoy is a smoky single malt whisky, inspired by the neighboring port town of Portsoy. This whisky has been matured in a combination of sherry, bourbon, and port wine casks, giving it a complex array of flavors. Bottled at 49.1% ABV and not chill-filtered, it presents itself in natural color without the addition of coloring agents.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Rich maritime notes, interwoven with tropical fruits and dark sherry sweetness, accompanied by accents of licorice and seaweed.
- Palate: Full-bodied with flavors of dark chocolate, fermented soy, and braised mango, underpinned by a hint of molasses and sea salt.
- Finish: Long and warming, with a slight maritime note that underscores the smoky character of the whisky.
Distillery/Bottler: The Glenglassaugh Distillery was founded in 1875 by Colonel James Moir and is beautifully located at the eastern end of Sandend Bay in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. After a longer period of inactivity, the distillery was revived in 2008 and is now part of the Brown-Forman Corporation, which is also responsible for brands like Jack Daniel's.
