MacNair's Lum Reek brings together smoky single malts from Islay and Speyside with older GlenAllachie. Billy Walker creates this twelve-year-old blended malt using peated and unpeated whiskies. The cask selection includes first-fill bourbon casks, red wine casks and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Its sweet, smoky character combines caramel notes with honey, mocha and spices.

The malts mature at GlenAllachie, where Billy Walker blends them. The 0.05-litre miniature contains twelve-year-old Lum Reek at 46%. The whisky is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring; its colour comes from cask maturation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet peat smoke and butterscotch combine with warming mocha and gentle nutmeg.
• Palate: On the palate, heather honey, rich toffee and sweet spices combine with underlying peat notes. Mature heather notes, sweet gale and butterscotch add further layers.
• Finish: The long finish is spicy and warming. Sweet smoke lingers alongside subtle sherry sweetness and a lightly toasted caramel note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The GlenAllachie Distillers Company revived MacNair's in 2018. Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson had acquired the distillery near Aberlour in Speyside in October 2017; the purchase also included the MacNair's and White Heather brands. For Lum Reek, Walker combines malt whisky selection with carefully directed cask management and composes the blends at the GlenAllachie site.

The brand draws on the legacy of Glasgow distiller and blender Harvey MacNair. Lum Reek takes its name from the Scottish wish “Lang may yer lum reek”, meaning “May your chimney smoke for a long time”. This traditional wish for a long and prosperous life inspired the name of the smoky whisky range.
