Special Features:

The Speysiders Batch 2 is a ten-year-old blended malt made from four Speyside single malts distilled in 2009. Linkwood and Glenlossie contribute whiskies matured in first-fill bourbon casks, Craigellachie provides a Sherry Hogshead component, and Miltonduff adds a portion matured in a red wine cask.

Murray McDavid transferred the blend to Sherry Butts for finishing and bottled it in 2019 at 46%, producing 1,553 bottles in total. The whisky combines biscuit, apple and honey with subtle stone-fruit notes, raisins and pepper. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals biscuit and oats, accompanied by a hint of apple as well as honey and rum-soaked raisins. Subtle touches of copper coins and preserved lemon peel round out the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, a little raw sugar combines with white pepper. Delicate notes of peach, apricot and raisins follow, along with a hint of honey.
• Finish: The finish is spicy, with lingering sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Craigellachie, Glenlossie, Linkwood and Miltonduff produced the four Speyside single malts. As the independent bottler, Murray McDavid selected and married them, carried out the Sherry Butt finish and bottled Batch 2 under its own The Vatting range.

London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin founded Murray McDavid in 1994 together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Their wine expertise shaped the company's focus on further maturation in selected wine casks. Today, the team works in the traditional warehouses of Coleburn Distillery in Speyside. For this additional maturation, it sources freshly emptied casks from wine and spirits producers and monitors the development of each cask to determine the right maturation point.
