Special Features:
For Modern Love, the already married whiskies spent over 20 months finishing together in Madeira Bual hogsheads. This extended wine finish therefore shapes the entire blend rather than just one component. It adds sweetness to the fruity core while preserving the fresh citrus notes. Track 9 is one of Turntable’s limited editions.
The recipe comprises 31% Teaninich, 25% Girvan and 15% Invergordon from first-fill bourbon casks, alongside 17% Royal Brackla from a hogshead and 12% Blair Athol from a rye barrel. The grain whiskies from Girvan and Invergordon together account for 40% of the blend and are all over 20 years old. This age applies to the grain components, not to the blend as a whole.
Each component contributes different accents: Teaninich brings pome fruit and vanilla custard, while Royal Brackla adds lemon cream and barley sugar sweets. Blair Athol contributes ginger and black pepper, Girvan recalls white chocolate, and Invergordon suggests almond pastries.
The whisky is bottled at 52.5% without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, ripe peach and pome fruit mingle with vanilla and fresh citrus notes.
- Palate: On the palate, peach and other summer fruits meet white chocolate, vanilla and syrupy sweetness.
- Finish: The finish remains fresh and fruity, with citrus notes, gentle sweetness and mild spice.
Distillery/Bottler:
Turntable Blending House was founded by two brothers who had accumulated more than twenty years of combined whisky experience before starting their joint project. Their focus is small-batch Blended Scotch. They select whiskies and casks to achieve a particular flavour profile and experiment with how they work together, rather than prioritising large production volumes.
For Modern Love, Turntable is responsible for blending and jointly finishing the whiskies from Teaninich, Girvan, Royal Brackla, Invergordon and Blair Athol. The house’s musical inspiration is also reflected in its use of Tracks to name its limited bottlings.
