Special Features:
Sixty years of oak maturation shape this vintage Armagnac from Château de Gaube. Distilled in 1966, the eau-de-vie comes from Bas-Armagnac and was bottled by Darroze in 2026 for the Unique Collection. It is made exclusively from Baco grapes and was distilled continuously on the estate at a distillate strength of 52%. Oak from the region was used for maturation.
The Unique Collection keeps individual estates and vintages separate: Darroze blends neither different estates nor different harvest years and does not dilute the Armagnacs with water. Each Armagnac in this range matures in its own oak cask with a capacity of 420 litres. This Armagnac is bottled at its natural strength of 43.5%. The 0.7-litre bottle is supplied in gift packaging. Its aromatic character brings dark, roasted notes together with concentrated plum fruit and mature spice.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose combines dark cocoa and ripe plums with clearly perceptible old wood. Toast and notes of plums steeped in brandy add further detail. Subtle spice notes round out the bouquet.
- Palate: The Armagnac feels velvety and dense on the palate. Stewed plums meet pronounced, savoury rancio and a delicate pepper note.
- Finish: Oak spice and layered spice notes linger through the long finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
Château de Gaube is located in Perquie in Bas-Armagnac. Here, Morel produces Armagnac from Baco grapes grown on the tawny sandy soils characteristic of the area, known as Sables fauves. The estate distils its own spirits and uses regional oak for its maturation casks. Darroze selects and bottles this vintage.
The history of Darroze goes back to Jean Darroze's restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan, where his son Francis became acquainted with the wines and spirits of Gascony. From the late 1960s onwards, Francis sought out distinctive spirits on the estates of Bas-Armagnac, overseeing their further maturation and bottling. Marc Darroze joined the company in 1994 and runs it today. The house has maturation cellars in Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac; keeping traceable batches from individual estates separate remains central to its approach.
