For this Clairin Ansyen, maturation in a former Uitvlugt rum cask adds another dimension to the Haitian sugarcane spirit. Kirsch Import selected the single cask CA21UI-122 for this release. The rum spent 22 months in it; its previous contents were rum from Uitvlugt in Guyana.

The Clairin was filled into the cask on 11 August 2023 and then matured in Spirit of Haiti’s warehouse in Port-au-Prince. It was bottled in June 2025 at 53.6%, without chill filtration or added colouring. This golden-yellow rum comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe banana and pineapple lead the nose. Sugarcane notes and a subtle mineral nuance complement the tropical fruit.
• Palate: The juicy, fruity opening gives way to grassy spice. Saline, mineral notes and subtle earthy accents add to the palate.
• Finish: The medium-length finish is dry and spicy. Green herbal notes and an earthy, fruity impression linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Faubert Casimir produces his Clairin in Baradères in southern Haiti. He uses fresh juice from Hawaii sugarcane and ferments it with local botanical ingredients, including anise and lemongrass. Combining sugarcane with these botanical ingredients is a distinctive part of his approach. The Clairin Ansyen range focuses on cask maturation of Haitian Clairins: Velier experimented with ageing these traditionally locally produced spirits in previously used casks.
