Special Features:

Distilled in 2003, this Highland Park spent more than 20 years in Sherry Butt 4118. La Maison du Whisky selected the whisky from this cask for Artist #14; in 2024, it yielded 438 bottles at 56.9%. The edition is part of the Rothes Glen collection, whose labels were designed by Nigerian artist Victor Ekpuk. The whisky was bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Its mature, oxidative fruit character brings together exotic and macerated fruit with spicy, resinous and floral impressions. Despite its strength, the whisky retains a remarkably delicate, creamy texture.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose is rich, with exotic, macerated fruit and an oxidative accent of balsamic vinegar. With air, notes of salt, lime blossom, lime, guava, beeswax, curry and rice cakes unfold.
  • Palate: The whisky is dense and full-bodied on the palate. Candied notes of pineapple, walnut and mirabelle plum meet creamy flan and the acidity of grapefruit and lemon. The texture remains very delicate, recalling rice grains and grated ginger. Ripe banana, resinous pine, cedarwood and pipe tobacco then become more prominent.
  • Finish: The long finish reveals meadow and dandelion notes, earth, gentian root and an almost peaty nuance. Lavender honey and heather honey gradually spread across the palate. Distinct peat and camphor linger in the empty glass.

Distillery/Bottler:

Highland Park has been distilling in Kirkwall on Orkney since 1798 and has been part of Edrington since 1999. The distillery uses hand-turned malt on its malting floors, two traditional malt kilns and four copper pot stills. Highland Park also uses traditional dunnage warehouses for maturation.

La Maison du Whisky is responsible for the selection of whiskies for Artist. Created in 2011, the series pairs limited single-cask bottlings with artistic labels that change each year. Distillery, maturation, age and alcohol strength are considered together during selection, and the whiskies are released at their natural cask strength.
