Special Features:

This Strathclyde Single Grain matured for 35 years in a single Barrel, number 62309. It was distilled on 3 September 1987 and bottled on 3 November 2022 by Elixir Distillers for The Whisky Trail – Knights. Bottled at 46%, with natural colour and without chill filtration, it is one of four single-cask releases presented together in March 2024.

Its creamy character brings together vanilla custard and cake batter with orange jelly, buttermilk and whipped cream. Fruity and woody accents add to the profile, while delicate spices accompany the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines vanilla custard, cake batter and orange jelly. Buttery biscuits, plums and apricots add to the aroma, accompanied by a light oak spiciness.
• Palate: The whisky is creamy and sweet on the palate. Vanilla custard and caramel lead, followed by cake and orange jelly. Buttermilk and whipped cream carry it towards the finish.
• Finish: The finish is soft, with a subtle cereal note and delicate spices. Candied ginger and caramelised stone fruit join them, leaving walnuts and oak behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

Strathclyde was founded in 1927 by the Scottish Grain Distillery Co. Ltd. and forms part of Chivas Brothers' production network. Its site also housed the Kinclaith malt distillery, built in 1957. Kinclaith ceased production in 1975 to allow the grain distillery to expand. Strathclyde grain whisky, produced in Glasgow, is mainly used in blends; independent single-cask bottlings offer the opportunity to experience it as a whisky in its own right.

Elixir Distillers is the independent bottler of this Strathclyde. Since 2002, the company has sought out Scottish whisky casks, assessing their individual character and quality. Alongside this Single Grain, The Whisky Trail's Knights range includes single-cask bottlings from Blair Athol, Dailuaine and Benrinnes.
