This miniature set brings together three different Gin Sul recipes in a gift box. It contains Gin Sul Classic and Gin Sul Laranjal, both at 43%, alongside Jardim do Paraíso Madeira at 45%. Each bottle contains 0.05 litres, giving a total of 0.15 litres. The packaging includes a cocktail recipe for each gin.

In Classic, Portuguese lemons take centre stage alongside juniper and herbs. Laranjal offers a different citrus emphasis: untreated Algarve orange peel is macerated, while mandarins contribute sweetness and Orange Pekoe tea adds spice. Its fruity, bitter notes develop through the maceration and distillation of natural botanicals.

Jardim do Paraíso Madeira launches Gin Sul’s limited Island Edition. To create its floral, spicy character, five macerations are distilled separately before the resulting distillates are blended. Distiller Rafael gathered some of the botanicals by hand on Madeira.

Distillery/Bottler:

Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur produces Gin Sul in Hamburg. Founder Stephan Garbe developed the idea during a stay in Portugal. He originally intended to distil there too, but bureaucratic obstacles led him to realise his plans in Hamburg instead. The Portuguese name Sul means south; Monte do Sul, a property bought by friends of Garbe, inspired the choice of name.

For the classic Gin Sul, the distillery combines botanical maceration with small-batch distillation. The alcohol vapours pass through a botanical basket containing fresh lemon peel, rosemary and rose petals, among other ingredients. The lemons come from gardens in the western Algarve. Laranjal is also produced in the distillery’s copper stills, but follows its own recipe of oranges, mandarins, juniper and Orange Pekoe tea.
