Special Features:

Etsu combines Japanese yuzu with a classic gin recipe featuring juniper, coriander seeds, angelica root, liquorice root and bitter orange peel. The pre-dried yuzu peel contributes fresh citrus notes, while bitter orange peel gives the gin more body. Coriander adds a light sweetness and a hint of minty freshness. Liquorice contributes anise-like and woody notes along with some bitterness; angelica root adds pleasantly bitter accents and warmth on the palate.

The botanicals macerate in alcohol for 22 hours before distillation and are then distilled with it. Etsu is suitable for gin and tonic and cocktails. This version contains 0.7 litres at 43% alcohol and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals floral and subtly herbal notes with fresh yuzu peel and delicate citrus blossom.
• Palate: The gin is fresh and balanced on the palate. Lively citrus notes meet gentle peppery spice, while a subtle hint of liquorice rounds out the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is soft and silky. Floral nuances linger alongside a rounded mouthfeel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Asahikawa Distillery is located in the city of the same name on Hokkaido, Japan’s northern main island. Etsu The Original and Etsu Pacific Ocean Water are produced here. The name Etsu means pleasure in Japanese. The distillery uses sugarcane alcohol at 67% to macerate the botanicals. This is followed by a single distillation in a copper still, during which the distillate reaches 83% alcohol.

Water from the Taisetsu mountains brings Etsu The Original to its bottling strength of 43%. Before bottling, a fine-mesh filter removes impurities. The distillery avoids chill filtration to preserve the aromatic qualities.
