Myken Arctic Gin of the Sea
Special features: The Myken Arctic Gin of the Sea is produced in the remote Myken distillery in Norway, which is considered one of the northernmost distilleries in the world. The production takes place in small batches, with the distillate refined using hand-picked botanicals such as juniper, coriander, citrus fruits, grains of paradise, licorice, and Arctic ingredients like sea buckthorn berries and mullein leaves. After a minimum of 24 hours of maceration, the gin is distilled again in copper pot stills, resulting in a clear, not chill-filtered product that may exhibit a milky cloudiness when diluted with water or ice.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Fresh aromas of juniper and citrus fruits, accompanied by a hint of Arctic herbs and berries.
- Palate: A balanced interplay of juniper, sea buckthorn berries, and subtle spice notes that reflect the rugged beauty of the Arctic coast.
- Finish: A long, spicy aftertaste with a slight sweetness that underscores the complexity of the gin.
Distillery/Bottler: The Myken distillery is located on the remote island of Myken in Norway, 32 kilometers off the coast of Northern Norway. Founded in 2014 by Roar Larsen and Trude Tokle, the distillery utilizes the local climate and natural resources to create unique spirits. All production processes, including aging and bottling, take place in the former fishing village of Myken.
