Special Features:

This 49-year-old Highland single malt from the closed Glen Mhor distillery matured in refill sherry hogshead No. 85026801. Glen Mhor distilled the whisky on 30 April 1973, and Gordon & MacPhail bottled it for the Private Collection on 10 January 2023.

Gordon & MacPhail released this single-cask bottling at 47.2%, with the hogshead yielding 170 bottles. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Its mature profile combines dark fruit with cocoa and toffee, a suggestion of furniture polish, mature oak and menthol freshness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines stewed raisins and sour cherries with cocoa powder. Toffee and dark sugar syrup develop alongside a gentle suggestion of furniture polish and mature oak.
• Palate: On the palate, Seville orange peel, brown sugar and berry compote meet baked apple, while a hint of menthol adds a cooling accent.
• Finish: The finish is long and full. Lingering spice and citrus notes mingle with nutmeg and dark forest fruits.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glen Mhor Distillery was built in Inverness in 1892 and was closely connected to Glen Albyn through both its location and ownership. It was the first distillery to experiment with mechanical maltings based on the Saladin system; its so-called Saladin boxes remained in use until the distillery’s own maltings closed in 1980. Glen Mhor was also released as a single malt under its own name at a time when blends dominated the market. The distillery closed in 1983 and was demolished three years later. Gordon & MacPhail bottled this whisky for the Private Collection.
