This Glenburgie was distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2021 after 32 years in Refill American Hogshead no. 2526. It comes from a single cask previously used to mature whisky. Its fruity, spicy character combines honey and pineapple with green apple and lemon, complemented by a hint of mint and piquant chilli notes.

Gordon & MacPhail released just 160 bottles at a cask strength of 55.2% in the Connoisseurs Choice range. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. This bottling presents Glenburgie as a single malt in its own right, while most of the distillery's production goes into Ballantine's Blended Scotch. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a wooden box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Bold honey initially leads on the nose. Pineapple and a hint of mint then emerge.
• Palate: The palate reveals intense, sweet spice notes. Piquant chilli, green apple and lemon appear later.
• Finish: The finish is long, with aromatic spices and vibrant citrus notes lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenburgie Distillery is located near Alves, between Forres and Elgin in Speyside. It began production in 1829 under the name Kilnflat and was renamed Glenburgie in 1878 following a period of closure. The distillery also historically produced Glencraig single malt using Lomond Stills. These distinctive stills are part of the site's history, but were not used to make this Glenburgie.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this whisky. In the 1960s, George Urquhart created Connoisseurs Choice as a platform for single malts in a market then dominated by blends. The company selected spirits from various Scottish distilleries, matured them and bottled them. The range also introduced single malts from distilleries whose whisky had not previously been available in its own right.
