Special Features:

This Glenlossie matured for four decades in a single Refill American Hogshead. The single malt remained in this previously used cask, numbered 3398, from distillation on 26 October 1982 until bottling on 8 November 2022. Gordon & MacPhail included it in the Private Collection, for which members of the Urquhart family select particularly long-matured single malts.

This single-cask release comprises 125 bottles at a natural cask strength of 60.2%. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. Its floral and fruity character combines with oak spice and nutty milk chocolate. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in an oak presentation case with a certificate of authenticity.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, roses, lilies and lilac mingle with grapes, apple and berries. Roasted almonds and cloves add to the aromas, accompanied by a subtle hint of hay.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate, with floral notes, peach and blackberry jam. Dry grass, mango and oak spice meet milk chocolate with whole nuts.
• Finish: The long finish remains fruity.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenlossie lies near Elgin in Speyside. John Duff, previously manager of Glendronach distillery, founded it in 1876. Following an initial expansion twenty years later, two further stills were added in 1962. Since Mannochmore was built in 1971, the two distilleries have shared the site and some production facilities. Much of Glenlossie's whisky goes into blended Scotch; independent bottlings offer an opportunity to discover its character as a single malt.

Gordon & MacPhail was established in 1895 as a grocery, wine and spirits merchant by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. John Urquhart and later his son George developed the selection and long-term maturation of single malts. The family company from Elgin had its own casks filled with new-make spirit at Scottish distilleries, then stored them either there or in its own warehouses. Its work therefore began long before bottling: pairing the spirit with a selected cask was central to its approach. Since 2024, the company has stopped having new casks filled at other distilleries; its extensive maturing stocks remain the basis for future releases.
