Special Features:

This Glenrothes matured for 16 years in a single Refill Sherry Butt for Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice range. It was distilled on 15 March 2007 and bottled on 11 October 2023 from cask 17602003. The sherry cask, previously used to mature whisky, yielded 648 bottles at a natural cask strength of 62.7%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together aromas of stewed fruit, autumnal spices and sweet honey.
• Palate: On the palate, sour cherries and tart raspberries meet the sweetness of peanut brittle.
• Finish: The finish feels medium-bodied, with notes of oak and toasted almonds.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glenrothes Distillery is in Rothes, between Elgin and Dufftown in Speyside. It was founded in 1878, and a loan from the local church helped complete its construction. The malt for this single-cask bottling was made there. Gordon & MacPhail was responsible for its cask maturation and selection, as well as bottling the whisky from the Refill Sherry Butt.

Gordon & MacPhail began in 1895 as a grocery, wine and spirits merchant in Elgin. John Urquhart and later his son George built relationships with Scottish distilleries and made the selection and long-term maturation of their malts a central part of the business. They matched oak casks to the individual spirits. In 1968, George Urquhart launched the Connoisseurs Choice range, which also showcased distilleries whose whisky had not previously been available as a single malt. Each bottling is accompanied by its vintage, cask type, cask number, bottling date, strength and tasting notes.
