Special Features:

This Glentauchers matured for 31 years in a Refill American Hogshead. Distilled in 1990, the Speyside single malt was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2022 for Connoisseurs Choice. Single cask 12488 yielded 172 bottles at a cask strength of 49.8%. Refill denotes a cask previously used to mature whisky, without specifying the number of previous fills.

Orchard fruit and creamy toffee meet tropical fruit and nutty spice. This non-smoky whisky is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring and comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines freshly pressed apple juice, juicy pear and creamy toffee.
• Palate: Juicy pineapple, mango and papaya appear first on the palate. Subtle peppery spice and toasted almonds then emerge.
• Finish: The long finish leaves a hint of star anise.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glentauchers Distillery lies between Keith and Aberlour in Speyside. Founded in 1897, it belonged to blender James Buchanan's company. Charles Doig was involved in planning the distillery, which was connected to the Scottish railway network by its own sidings. Gordon & MacPhail has regularly bottled its single malt since the 1990s.

Gordon & MacPhail began in 1895 as a grocery, wine and spirits merchant in Elgin. John Urquhart and later his son George expanded the selection and maturation of single malts: they chose suitable oak casks for the different spirits and left some whiskies to mature for decades. George Urquhart launched Connoisseurs Choice in 1968 to bring single malts from a variety of Scottish distilleries to a wider audience. The range documents each bottling with details of cask type, bottling date, strength and vintage, along with tasting notes. For this Glentauchers, Gordon & MacPhail was responsible for maturing and bottling the whisky from Hogshead 12488.
