HAMPDEN 2016/2023 OWH - Habitation Velier
Special features: The Habitation Velier Hampden is characterized by its high ester content of 40-80 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol, typical for the Outram Wormald Hussey (OWH) series from the famous Jamaican distillery Hampden. As a Pure Single Rum, it comes from a single distillery and was distilled in traditional pot stills. The aging took place in ex-bourbon casks for seven years, giving it its distinctive flavor.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Lush and intense with aromas of vetiver grass, rubber, cane sugar, and camphor. After breathing, medicinal notes such as sage and mustard emerge, along with a hint of petroleum. Exotic fruits like banana and pineapple round off the bouquet.
Palate: Lively and powerful with a mix of coriander, tar, cane sugar, and geranium honey. The mid-palate impresses with an outstanding combination rounded off by toffee and ripe banana.
Finish: Long and intoxicating. The complexity starts powerfully and develops into milky notes of agave and coconut, accompanied by fruity facets like melon and apricot, as well as a floral menthol finish with iris butter.
Distillery/Bottler: Hampden is one of the most traditional distilleries in Jamaica and is known for its distinctive, “funky” rum with a high ester content, which is appreciated worldwide. Velier, a renowned Italian bottler, has created a collectible collection of Pure Single Rums with the Habitation Velier series, which are valued for their origin, production methods, and complexity, similar to single malt whiskies.
