Special Features:

Long maturation in a single bourbon cask and a very short Oloroso sherry finish shape this Hampden from The Nectar of the Daily Drams series. This molasses-based rum was distilled in 1983 under the high-ester HGML mark and bottled in July 2024 at 41 years old and 53.5%.

Tropical fruit, solvent notes, leather and tobacco combine with floral impressions and spicy accents. Jamaican funk remains present throughout the long finish, accompanied by rubber, asphalt and dry wood.

The Nectar selected the rum, and Famille Ricci bottled it. The release comprises 198 bottles of 0.7 litres each. The rum is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Mango, passion fruit and pineapple lead the initial aromas, recalling tropical fruits preserved in syrup. As the bouquet develops, leather and solvent notes reveal another side. A light tobacco note, floral nuances and the scent of fine woods join them.
• Palate: Nutmeg and clove lend a sweet, spicy tension to the combination of fruit and wildflower notes. The flavour has depth and engages the palate directly.
• Finish: Jamaican funk comes to the fore in the finish, with rubber, asphalt and dry wood giving the long, intense aftertaste its distinctive character.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hampden Estate produces rum in Jamaica’s Trelawny region, and the estate’s history dates back to 1753. The Hussey family acquired the business in 2009 through Everglades Farms. The distillery’s methods include fermentation with naturally occurring yeasts and batch distillation in copper pot stills.

The Nectar was founded in 2006 by Jan Broekmans with support from Mario Groteklaes. Since 2008, the Belgian company has released its own independent bottlings under Daily Dram. For this Hampden, The Nectar collaborated with Famille Ricci: The Nectar handled the selection, while Famille Ricci bottled the rum. Before bottling, it received the very short Oloroso finish.
