Special Features:

Pagos Batch 3 matured entirely in ex-Oloroso sherry Butts under tropical conditions in Jamaica. For this third edition, rums from 16 casks supplied by Bodegas Fundador were blended. The 500-litre casks had previously held Oloroso for up to thirty years. Pagos thus brings together Hampden’s ester-rich distillery style and the cask traditions of Jerez.

The rum carries the distillery mark HLCF, short for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, and has an ester content of 374.1 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. Fruity and fermentative impressions meet the woody and oxidative influences of the sherry casks. It is bottled at 52%, without added sugar, colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is rich and complex. Clove and toasted walnut combine with blood orange, apricot kernel and cherries preserved in brandy. With aeration, almonds emerge, followed by hints of dates and a touch of coffee liqueur.
• Palate: The rum opens powerfully and vibrantly on the palate with cane sugar, chestnut honey and tropical flowers. Vanilla and cocoa beans follow, accompanied by fine tannins. Camphor and geranium appear in the lingering palate flavours.
• Finish: The finish is long and full. Coconut milk and honeysuckle bring a fresh, floral dimension, accompanied by lacquer notes. Light tobacco, lime blossom, peppery rose and coriander then emerge, while walnut and raisins linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hampden Estate is located in Trelawny, Jamaica, with a history dating back to 1753. The distillery ferments for eight to fifteen days using naturally occurring wild yeasts and distils exclusively in copper pot stills. Pagos is distilled in double retort pot stills, whose two downstream retorts form part of traditional Jamaican distilling practice. The rum then matures at its place of origin under tropical conditions.

In 2009, Everglades Farms Ltd., owned by the Hussey family, acquired the estate. The new owners preserved its traditional production methods while expanding the maturation of their own rums on the estate. In 2018, the first aged official bottlings under the Hampden Estate name reached the international market. Pagos continues this development with full maturation in sherry casks.
