Distillery/Bottler: The Karuizawa Distillery, founded in 1955 at the foot of the active volcano Asama in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, was known for its high-quality single malt whiskies. It used imported Golden Promise barley from Scotland and primarily aged its whiskies in sherry casks, resulting in a characteristic, complex flavor profile. The distillery closed in 2000, and the remaining casks were acquired by independent bottlers, making Karuizawa whiskies sought-after collector's items.
