Special Features:

A finish in Bordeaux red wine casks from Lynch-Bages gives this Achill Island Single Malt its summery, fruity character. Before this, the whiskey, made from Irish malted barley, matures on Achill Island in First Fill Kentucky Bourbon Barrels, used for whiskey maturation for the first time after holding bourbon. It is triple-distilled in copper pot stills.

Alongside summer fruits, sultanas, vanilla and gentle chai spice shape the flavour profile, with cinnamon and red fruits also present. The whiskey is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It is bottled at 44% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres. It received a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2025.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is gentle and floral. Vanilla and crème caramel lend it a sweet note.
• Palate: On the palate, sultanas meet soft summer fruits. Raspberry adds a slightly tart note, while strawberry tastes juicy. Mild chai spice with vanilla completes the flavours.
• Finish: The medium-long to long finish leaves a creamy mouthfeel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Achill Island Distillery is located in Bunnacurry on Achill Island in County Mayo, Ireland. John McKay founded the distillery in 2019; following his death in 2020, his sons Michael and Seán continued the family business. Its Atlantic coastal location brings sea air and moderate temperatures, shaping the conditions in which the whiskeys mature on the island.

The distillery uses seven fermentation vessels and long fermentation times: fermentation lasts seven days in winter and five in summer. Its water comes from Lough Corrymore and passes through quartz sandstone and amethyst rock on its way to the distillery. Alongside single malt, the team also produces Single Pot Still Whiskey.
