This seven-year-old Clan Colla is the first Single Grain in the Family Bond Series from Ahascragh Distillers. The Irish whiskey initially matured in ex-bourbon casks before receiving a finish in casks that previously held rum from Panama. It is bottled at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle, with no added colouring and no chill filtration.

The bottling combines a light, sweet grain style with fruit and spice. Its buttery texture on the palate sits alongside dried fruit and baking spices, while spicy grain notes linger in the warming finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals vanilla and banana.
• Palate: The whiskey is light and buttery on the palate. Dried fruit meets baking spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon.
• Finish: The finish is soft and warming, with spicy grain notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Gareth and Michelle McAllister established their family business in Ahascragh, County Galway, converting a 19th-century mill into a distillery. The distillery uses wind and solar energy alongside high-temperature heat pumps. Heat recovery and thermal storage allow energy to be reused within the production process.

The Family Bond Series began while the distillery was still being developed, using selected spirits from other Irish distilleries. Clan Colla has been part of the series since 2021. The seven-year-old Single Grain was not distilled in Ahascragh either: the company selected the whiskey, finished it in Panamanian rum casks and bottled it in western Ireland. The series bridges the waiting period until Ahascragh's own whiskey has matured.
