Special Features:

This Irish single grain first matured in ex-bourbon casks before receiving a finish in Amontillado sherry casks. It belongs to Clonakilty’s Cask Finish Series. Batch 004 comprises 1,400 bottles at 48% alcohol; the whiskey is uncoloured and non-chill-filtered.

Maturation in ex-bourbon casks shapes the sweet, spicy wood notes, while the Amontillado finish contributes butterscotch, salted caramel and toasted nut aromas. Dark fruit, caramel, chocolate, coffee and oak accompany the soft grain character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe dark fruit appears first, followed by chocolate and nuts, with toasted aromas and a little caramel.
• Palate: On the palate, ripe fruit and pronounced oak spice meet caramel, malt, toasted nuts and freshly roasted coffee. A touch of heat adds to the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is medium to long and remains spicy, with nutty notes lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Scully family has farmed land in south-west Ireland for nine generations and founded Clonakilty Distillery in County Cork in 2016. The distillery began distilling its own spirit in 2019 and also has maturation and bottling facilities. The spirit for this 14-year-old single grain, however, did not come from its own stills: Clonakilty handled the cask finishing and bottled the whiskey.
