Special Features:

Copeland prepares the cold brew for this coffee liqueur at the distillery itself. The coffee comes from local roaster Wild Heart and is extracted cold before being blended with Irish vodka and cocoa nibs. Each batch is finely filtered and labelled with the origin of the coffee used.

This vegan liqueur has an alcohol content of 22% and comes in a 0.5-litre bottle. It can be enjoyed over ice or used in an Irish Coffee or Espresso Martini.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Bold roasted coffee leads the nose. Beneath it, dark chocolate and cocoa emerge with a slight bitterness.
• Palate: Cold brew defines the palate. Notes of melted dark chocolate and the bitterness of cocoa nibs are rounded out by velvety vanilla sweetness.
• Finish: The warming finish fades slowly, leaving coffee and dark chocolate behind. It feels smooth and full-bodied, yet light.

Distillery/Bottler:

Copeland Distillery is based in Donaghadee, County Down, in Northern Ireland. It began in summer 2016 with a crowdfunding campaign in which more than 370 supporters contributed a total of £30,000. After nine months of restoration, the distillery moved into buildings near the harbour that had previously housed a cinema and the Ards Bottling Company and had stood unused for over twenty years.

The distillery's equipment includes three custom-made copper stills named Betty, Hessie and Pam. Their names honour founder Gareth's grandmothers and mother. Copeland produces gin and Irish Whiskey, among other spirits; for the coffee liqueur, preparing the cold brew, blending, filtering and bottling also take place on site. The offshore Copeland Islands give the distillery its name and link it to the coast's history of trade and smuggling.
