Bourbon and port wine casks lend two distinct influences to this blend developed for the Temple Bar. Maturation in port wine casks adds dark fruit notes and depth, while the bourbon casks contribute wood, vanilla and malt. The whiskey matured in the Temple Bar’s cellars and is offered at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tom Cleary, the owner of the Temple Bar, developed this whiskey as his pub’s own house bottling. It continues the Irish tradition of combining selected whiskeys into an individual pub blend. The Traditional Irish Whiskey is the signature blend in the Temple Bar’s range of bottlings.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruity notes of red berries and plums mingle with honey and delicate spice.
• Palate: On the palate, malt and fruit meet vanilla and a light sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is smooth, with lingering honey, spice and wood.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Temple Bar is situated in the district of the same name in the heart of Dublin. Its history began in 1840 as a wine and spirits shop. Selecting, blending and bottling whiskey has a long tradition in the Cleary family: Tom Cleary’s father and grandfather were creating their own house blends from the 1920s onwards. They kept selected casks in their cellars and combined the matured whiskeys to achieve their desired house style.

Today, the family continues this work through The Temple Bar Whiskey Company. In 2014, Tom Cleary opened a whiskey shop next to the pub, where tastings are also held and whiskey is sometimes bottled directly from the cask. Their own bottlings thus connect cask selection and blending with the history of the establishment.
