Special Features:

A six-month finish in Imperial Stout casks shapes this Irish blended whiskey. Its base blend consists of 50% wheat whiskey, 35% malt whiskey and 15% grain whiskey. The three components initially mature separately in ex-bourbon casks before being combined for the final maturation.

The beer casks were originally ex-Sherry hogsheads that had previously held The Whistler 7 Year Old. Boyne Brewhouse matured its Imperial Stout at 10.8% alcohol in them for at least six months. The casks were filled with the whiskey immediately after being emptied, preventing the beer retained in the wood from turning sour and preserving the fresh influence of the stout.

Vanilla, nutty notes and the base blend’s creamy texture meet dark berries, roasted coffee, malt, toasted notes, cocoa, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. The whiskey is full-bodied, dry and distinctly shaped by the stout. It is bottled at 43% alcohol without chill filtration or added colouring.

• Nose: The nose combines dark berries with bitter coffee and creamy cocoa.
• Palate: On the palate, cocoa, coffee and caramel meet a creamy, full-bodied mouthfeel.
• Finish: The finish is long and creamy.

Distillery/Bottler:

Boann Distillery developed the blend for The Whistler, coordinated the collaboration with Boyne Brewhouse and bottled the finished whiskey. The brewery supplied the freshly emptied casks from its Imperial Stout.

Boann is an independent, family-run distillery in the Boyne Valley in County Meath, Ireland. Patrick and Marie Cooney founded it together with their children; in 2019, the family fulfilled its long-held ambition of establishing its own distillery. The Cooneys have lived and worked in the region for more than 200 years and bring over 50 years of experience in the Irish drinks industry.
