Special Features:

The Pedro Ximénez finish gives The Whistler P.X. I Love You its pronounced sherry character. Made from 100% malted barley, this single malt first matures in former bourbon casks. It then spends at least nine months in casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry. This second maturation stage brings dried-fruit and sugar notes together with nutty and woody impressions.

The whiskey is bottled at 46% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle. It is non-chill-filtered, and its colour comes entirely from cask maturation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sherry leads on the nose. Dried berries, raisins, cherries and sultanas mingle with candied orange and brown sugar.
• Palate: The whiskey opens on the palate with distinct woody notes. The mouthfeel is viscous yet clearly defined. Dried fruit and brown sugar are complemented by walnut, lively citrus notes and a hint of leather.
• Finish: Walnut and dried fruit linger through the long, dry finish. A gentle tingle from the wood and a subtle note of dark chocolate accompany the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Whistler is the creation of Boann Distillery, an independent family business owned by the Cooneys in Ireland’s Boyne Valley, County Meath. Patrick and Marie Cooney established the distillery with their children; in 2019, they realised their dream of producing their own whiskey. The name The Whistler pays tribute to Pat Cooney and his habit of whistling tunes.

The brand’s story began in 2016, when Boann sourced whiskey from another distillery for the first The Whistler releases. Cask selection and finishing have therefore been part of the range’s approach from the outset. Boann’s own distillery focuses on Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, using a system with a mash conversion vessel and a lauter tun that can also process unmalted grain. This method belongs to its own pot still production; P.X. I Love You, by contrast, is a single malt made entirely from malted barley.
