Special Features:

The first-fill bourbon cask used for this Two Stacks Smoke & Mirrors underwent an unusual preparation. It first held a mixture of American whiskey and honey liqueur. It then held a barley wine from Dot Brew, with 13% alcohol and a high rye content, for four months. This intermediate filling softened the cask's sweetness and added a nutty caramel character.

Once the beer had been drained, the whiskey received a four-month finish in this cask. The base combines fruity, double-distilled malt whiskey with peated malt. The whiskey is bottled at 55.7%, is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, burnt toffee and smoky honey meet vanilla and a maritime note of sea spray.
• Palate: On the palate, honeycomb and spicy vanilla combine with salted caramel and cinnamon. The smoke brings a nutty note.
• Finish: Sweet campfire smoke and spice linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shane McCarthy, Liam Brogan and Donal McLynn founded Two Stacks in 2020. The team behind Ireland Craft Beverages is responsible for the brand. Two Stacks works with Irish distilleries, selecting their spirits and developing its own bottlings from them. In 2022, the company opened an independent facility for cask storage and whiskey blending.

Two Stacks thus continues the Irish tradition of whiskey bonders: merchants bought whiskey from distilleries, matured it further and sold it under their own names. Two Stacks' working methods include emptying casks manually and labelling bottles by hand.
