Nagahama Single Malt 2020/2023 - 3 y.o. - Lightly Peated Mizunara Cask #1060

Special features: The smallest whisky distillery in Japan, located on the shores of Lake Biwa, has been focusing on artisanal precision and traditional methods since 2016. With the smallest pot stills in the country, they manage to distill a full-bodied and profound malt spirit. This 3-year-old single malt matured entirely in a rare Mizunara oak cask – a wood that, due to its special properties, provides complex aromas. Cask number 1060 is one of only 409 bottled bottles, filled at a high drinking strength of 57.8% vol.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Gentle peat smoke notes combined with warm oak tones and fresh, grassy accents.
  • Palate: Full-bodied with flavors of lightly toasted bread, spicy Mizunara wood, and a subtle fruit sweetness.
  • Finish: Long-lasting, dry with a hint of green tea and restrained smokiness.

Distillery/Bottler: The Nagahama Distillery is one of the youngest and smallest distilleries in Japan, founded in 2016 on Lake Biwa. Under the guidance of Master Blender Takashi Kiyoi, the distillery stands for uncompromising craftsmanship and innovative approaches in whisky production. Their focus is on producing characterful single malts with a Japanese claim, particularly the work with casks shaped by Mizunara oak that defines the profile.
