Special Features:

Mizunara hogshead No. 1060 shapes this lightly peated single malt. Distilled in August 2020, the whisky spent three years maturing in Japanese oak rather than receiving only a short finish. In 2023, the cask yielded 409 bottles at 57.8%. The whisky contains no added colouring and was not chill-filtered.

Tea and freshly baked bread give the aroma a grain-like character. On the palate, malt and oak come forward while the peat remains restrained. Woody spice and delicate smoke accompany the medium-length finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, freshly brewed tea and baked bread mingle with oak, a herbal nuance and delicate smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, mild peat gradually gives way to malt. Pronounced oak, pepper and gentle spice accompany the creamy texture.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades with delicate smoke, wood, spice and a hint of incense.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nagahama Distillery is located beside Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Nagahama Roman Beer began making whisky there in November 2016, having brewed craft beer since 1996. The small distillery uses unusually shaped pot stills. Master Blender Takashi Kiyoi and distiller Yusuke Yahisa created this single malt. A single batch and one carefully selected cask are central to the bottling, allowing the character of Nagahama malt and Japanese oak to emerge together.
