Special Features:

The 2023 edition belongs to the annually dated Rare Cask Series and was crafted from rare, hand-selected, sherry-seasoned oak casks. The batch volume is equivalent to 50 sherry butts; this figure describes its cask-volume basis, not the number of bottles released. The selection focused on the natural ruby-mahogany colour, concentrated raisin fruit and a rich, velvety mouthfeel.

For this edition, The Macallan collaborated with Charlie Burchill of Simple Minds. The collaboration explores the connection between wood used to make instruments and the role of casks in whisky making. Raisins and gentle vanilla meet fresh apple, lemon and orange as well as dark chocolate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Gentle vanilla and rich raisins take centre stage, while fresh apple, lemon and orange lend the profile a bright, fruity dimension.
• Palate: Intense, sweet raisins give way to vanilla and dark chocolate, accompanied by delicate layers of light citrus zest.
• Finish: The finish is long, rich and distinctly velvety.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan received its licence to distil in 1824 and is rooted at the Easter Elchies Estate in Speyside. Its cask programme is a central part of the distillery’s work. For Rare Cask 2023, it selected rare, sherry-seasoned oak casks and released the single malt as an official bottling with limited worldwide availability.
