Special Features:

Long maturation in oak followed by storage in glass shapes this Cognac from Petite Champagne. Vallein Tercinier distilled Lot 35 in 1935 from grapes grown in this Cognac-producing area. After more than half a century in French oak, the Cognac was transferred in 1990 to glass demijohns known as Dame Jeanne. It remained there until bottling in 2024 — a further 34 years.

Kirsch Import selected this single cask from the family house's stocks. The edition comprises just 80 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 47% alcohol. The Cognac is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. It comes in a wooden box.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose opens with dried apricot and silver fir honey. Delicate hints of shell limestone and damp wood then emerge, accompanied by desiccated coconut and sugar cane juice. Ripe pineapple and mango mousse add to the rich bouquet, while green apple and ripe pear remain in the background.
  • Palate: Passion fruit with an oily feel opens the palate. A light funky note reminiscent of rum from St. Lucia accompanies the fruit. Fruitiness and acidity are balanced, with a subtle tingling chilli heat. Towards the end, sandalwood and Swiss stone pine emerge with spicy notes reminiscent of an aromatic infusion in a steam bath.
  • Finish: The finish is very long and fresh. The acidity subsides, and a slight bitterness appears briefly before giving way to fruity sweetness and tropical aromas. A pronounced oiliness accompanies the lingering finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Vallein Tercinier is based at the Domaine des Forges in Chermignac, in the Saintonge region. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791; Georges Vallein established the trading house around 1850 and worked as a distiller and wine and spirits merchant. Paul Vallein later developed his own blends and began selling Cognac in bottles. The house's history thus brings together distillation and the selection and blending of matured eaux-de-vie.

When Robert Tercinier joined the business in 1947, he continued the work of his father Louis. Over the following decades, the house used eight stills to produce Cognac both for its own business and for other trading houses. In the 1990s, Robert's son Louis took charge of production, while his daughter Catherine assumed responsibility for commercial management. Alongside its classic blends, Vallein Tercinier offers single-cask bottlings and limited editions that highlight individual origins and stocks held by the house.
