Caroni 1996 Guyana Blended - Paradise #1
Special features: This powerful rum comes from the legendary Caroni distillery in Trinidad and was distilled in 1996. After its distillation, it initially aged in Trinidad before being transferred in 2009 to the warehouses of Demerara Distillers in Guyana. In 2019, it was further moved to the Cognac region in France, where it aged in special glass balloons, known as Dame-Jeannes, until bottling in 2022. This extraordinary aging across three different countries gives this rum a unique depth and complexity. It was bottled as a single cask release from cask number 5552 with an alcohol content of 62.7% vol. The limited edition and the artistic design of the bottle make it a coveted collector's item.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Intense aromas of tropical fruits, roasted nuts, and sweet caramel.
Palate: Complex notes of oak, spicy spices, and a hint of smoke.
Finish: A warm, sweet aftertaste that lingers and awakens the desire for more.
Distillery/Bottler: The Caroni distillery was founded in 1923 and was known for its heavy, characterful rums. It supplied, among others, the British Navy. The distillery was closed in 2002, and the remaining casks were taken over by various bottlers. This rum was bottled by La Maison du Whisky and Velier, known for their high-quality bottlings.
