Dos Maderas Atlantic combines Caribbean cask maturation with a sherry finish in Andalusia. The rums from Barbados and Guyana each spend their first 5 years in oak casks previously used for bourbon. The blend is then taken to Jerez de la Frontera, where it matures for 1 additional year in old casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry. Together, the two maturation stages total 6 years.

The first maturation stage develops vanilla and toasted wood notes; the subsequent maturation in Jerez adds sweet dried-fruit notes of raisins and figs, along with hints of honey, caramelised fruit and cocoa beans. Caramel, toasted nuts and spices shape its balanced character. Atlantic can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also works well in cocktails.

The rum is offered at 37.5% alcohol in a bottle containing 0.7 litres and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pastry notes mingle with pronounced aromas of oak, spices, vanilla, honey and caramel. Toasted nuts complete the aromatic profile.
• Palate: The rum feels soft and silky on the palate. Oak and spices meet vanilla, honey, caramel and toasted nuts.
• Finish: A subtle raisin note from maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks lingers on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dos Maderas is the work of Bodegas Williams & Humbert in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. Established in 1877, the house has belonged to the Medina family since the 1990s. Alongside sherry, Brandy de Jerez is also part of its history. In 2006, Williams & Humbert expanded its range with the first Dos Maderas rum.

For Dos Maderas, the house sources rums from Barbados and Guyana, combining maturation in their countries of origin with further ageing in its sherry cellars. The casks’ previous contents are key: the old oak casks used for Atlantic previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry. Williams & Humbert thus draws on its sherry expertise for the further maturation of Caribbean rums.
