Special Features:

Distilled in Guyana in 1997, this rum matured for 24 years in cask 3. It was distilled from molasses in a pot still. Duncan Taylor selected the single cask for the Quarterdeck range and bottled the rum on 10 May 2022 at 49.5%. The release comprises 196 bottles. Its colour comes entirely from cask maturation.

Its character combines fruity and dark roasted impressions with a bittersweet palate marked by pastry notes and a long, spicy finish. Coffee, chocolate and leather sit alongside caramel, grapes and allspice; plum jam, black pepper and flame-scorched wood emerge in the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruit mingles with coffee, chocolate and leather.
• Palate: The rum is bittersweet on the palate, with notes of pastry, caramel, grapes and allspice.
• Finish: The long finish evokes spiced plum jam, black pepper and flame-scorched wood.

Distillery/Bottler:

Uitvlugt Distillery in Guyana produced the spirit. Located west of Georgetown, it housed its own Savalle stills as well as historic stills from other closed distilleries. Distillation at Uitvlugt ended in December 1999, and the equipment was moved to Diamond.

Duncan Taylor bottled the rum as an independent bottler for the Quarterdeck range. The company was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask brokerage and trading business. Over the decades, it built up a stock of rare, mature whisky casks. When Euan Shand acquired the company and its stocks in 2001, he established the business in his hometown of Huntly in Aberdeenshire.
