Hampden 1753 is part of the distillery’s permanent range and takes its name from the year it was founded. This Pure Single Rum matures for three years in ex-bourbon barrels, entirely in Jamaica’s tropical climate. It belongs to the HLCF distillate classification, short for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, and displays the estate’s ester-rich style. Bottled at 46%, it lends itself both to drinking neat and to cocktails.

Production uses molasses, sugar-cane vinegar, dunder and muck. Dunder and muck are traditional elements of Jamaican fermentation practice. Distillation takes place in double-retort pot stills. No sugar or colouring is added. The rum comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The intense nose offers lush tropical fruit with a subtle hint of smoke. Floral and vegetal notes complete the bouquet.
• Palate: The rum is rich and rounded on the palate. Ripe pineapple and banana meet nuances of spice and nuts, along with a fresh vegetal accent.
• Finish: The long finish opens with delicate floral notes, followed by herbal and slightly salty impressions. Lemon and grapefruit bring freshness, while sweet spice and white-fleshed fruit linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hampden Estate has operated in Jamaica’s Trelawny region since 1753. In 2010, the distillery began ageing its rums locally in the tropical climate; its first official bottlings followed in 2018.

Long fermentation with naturally occurring yeasts and distillation in copper double-retort pot stills define Hampden’s production methods. Water comes from a nearby natural spring. Maturation takes place in the estate’s own warehouses in Jamaica. These methods are also used for Hampden 1753.
