Special Features:
A PX sherry finish complements the robust character of Navy Island XO Reserve in this anniversary edition. The 2026 release brings together selected Jamaican rums from Worthy Park, Monymusk and Hampden Estate. The blend contains Jamaican rums distilled from molasses in pot stills. The spirits first mature in Bourbon Barrels under tropical conditions. The rum then undergoes at least six months of finishing in casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez sherry.
The combination of ester-driven Jamaican rum and PX cask maturation brings dark fruit notes together with pronounced sweetness. Alongside raisins and dark chocolate, there are hints of jam and molasses syrup. The finishing stage adds sweet, dried-fruit accents to the blend’s full-bodied underlying character.
Navy Island celebrates its 10th anniversary with this limited special edition. The rum is bottled in 2026 at a cask strength of 63.5%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a cylindrical cardboard tube; palm trees, sailing ships, stills and rum casks on the bottle and packaging evoke its origins and production. As well as tasting it neat, it is worth trying it with a few drops of water.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense notes of ripe dark fruit, raisins and sweet syrup lead the nose. Light notes of vanilla and caramel accompany the fruit.
- Palate: On the palate, sweetness combines with a dry impression. Raisins and dark chocolate meet syrupy depth and subtle spice.
- Finish: Dry fruit notes linger through the long finish. Gentle oak spice and a hint of spices accompany the lingering flavours.
Distillery/Bottler:
Navy Island was founded in 2016 by Jacco Kroon. The Dutchman had previously spent many years working in the spirits industry. His brand combines rums from different Jamaican distilleries, with Worthy Park, Monymusk and Hampden Estate forming the foundation of its blends. Rather than highlighting the character of a single distillery, Navy Island brings their different spirits together in one composition.
The brand takes its name from the small island of Navy Island off Port Antonio in Jamaica. The British Royal Navy used it as a base in the 18th century. This connection shapes the brand’s name and maritime design. XO Reserve is one of its original releases and provides the base for the special PX edition marking its 10th anniversary.
