Worthy Park 109 combines unaged, higher-ester rum with lighter components aged for three years in ex-bourbon casks. The rum components are distilled in a copper double-retort pot still at Jamaica's Worthy Park Estate and blended there. The aged components mature in once-used ex-bourbon casks made from American white oak. The rum is bottled at 54.5%, with caramel colouring added to deepen its colour.

Its character is powerful, full-bodied and fruit-led. Banana, pineapple and orange mingle with vanilla, caramel and toffee, while cinnamon and wood add further aromatic notes. Despite its high strength, the intense flavour leads into a smooth finish. This bottling is particularly suited to Tiki drinks, tropical mixes and classic rum cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals fresh tropical fruit notes of banana and pineapple, alongside orange. Vanilla and cinnamon complement the sweet aromas.
• Palate: The rum is full-bodied and powerful on the palate. Guava and caramel meet a subtle toffee note, with peach and chocolate adding to the flavour.
• Finish: The intense flavour gives way to a smooth finish. It lingers with notes of caramel, toffee and wood.

Distillery/Bottler:

Worthy Park Estate is situated in Lluidas Vale in Jamaica's Saint Catherine parish. Sugar cane has been grown there since 1720, and the first documented rum production dates to 1741. Following a pause lasting several decades, the estate resumed distillation in 2005. The new distillery was established at the initiative of Gordon Clarke, whose family has owned the estate since 1918.

Sugar cane cultivation, the sugar factory and the distillery form an integrated production operation. All the molasses comes from the estate, which also uses its own yeast strain isolated from sugar cane. For lighter rums, temperature-controlled fermentation takes around 30 hours. Heavy rums ferment for two to three weeks. Distillation takes place in batches in a copper pot still built by Forsyths in Scotland, with two retorts connected downstream. Worthy Park 109 is also matured, blended and bottled on the estate.
