Captain Cane combines a Caribbean rum base with a deliberately smooth, sweet flavour profile. The recipe blends two Caribbean rums and adds natural flavourings and sugar. The base is made from molasses and matured in bourbon casks. Alongside the fruity, coconut-led impressions, this cask maturation contributes vanilla notes to the blend.

The magnum bottle holds 3 litres at 40% alcohol. Its wooden closure and nautical motifs featuring compass roses and anchors reflect the brand’s seafaring theme. The spirit has a deep terracotta colour and is bottled with added colouring. Captain Cane can be enjoyed neat at room temperature or used in tiki drinks and other cocktails.

Coconut, tropical fruit and gentle sweetness shape its character. Vanilla and caramel complement these impressions, while restrained wood and oak notes provide a spicy counterpoint.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, creamy coconut and tropical fruit notes mingle with soft vanilla and sweet caramel.
• Palate: On the palate, Captain Cane is full-bodied, smooth, gentle and sweet. Ripe banana meets coconut, vanilla and caramel, with subtle spicy wood notes complementing the fruit.
• Finish: The gentle, lingering finish leaves a mild sweetness, hints of caramel and delicate wood notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Oldman Spirits GmbH produces and bottles Captain Cane. Based in Jübek in Schleswig-Holstein, the company develops rum blends, selects single casks and also handles product development and bottling for other clients. Until 2019, bottling, labelling and packaging were still carried out by hand. Oldman Spirits subsequently expanded its cask warehouse and introduced semi-automatic and fully automatic bottling lines.

Captain Cane was created in collaboration with Kirsch Import. Working with Klaus Heuer of Oldman Spirits, the team at Kirsch Import developed the recipe, name, design and brand story over roughly a year. The aim was an approachable, sweet spirit for people discovering the pleasure of drinking spirits neat. The Captain Cane character draws on the ship’s cats that once accompanied sailors, linking the brand to its Caribbean rum base.
