Bourbon and sherry casks shape Rum Nation's Demerara Solera No.14. It brings together molasses-based rums from different vintages in Guyana: pot stills provide body, while column stills contribute a lighter counterpoint. The rums first mature in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, followed by twelve months in sherry butts previously used for Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez, which enhance their spicy character. A small proportion of very old Enmore rum is added to complete the blend.

The rum combines pronounced sweetness with bitter and spicy notes. Its creamy, almost buttery texture accompanies cinnamon, orange peel and black pepper. A honey-like nuance and a hint of barbecue smoke complement the profile, with oak, liquorice and anise seeds adding further accents. It contains 40% alcohol and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is dark and slightly musty. Pronounced ester notes recall fermented fruit and glue, alongside cola, myrtle and bergamot tea.
• Palate: The palate reveals a viscous molasses sweetness with dark chocolate, coffee and raisins. Light roasted notes and a bitter undertone combine with black tea and gentian root.
• Finish: Bitter herbal notes alternate with sweetness through the long finish. Eventually, an almost syrupy, slightly wine-like impression reminiscent of vermouth prevails.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fabio Rossi founded Rum Nation in 1999 to bring together the distinctive rum styles of different countries in a single range. The independent bottler buys already matured rums from selected distilleries, then selects and blends them. The emphasis is on the region of origin, which is why not every bottling bears a distillery name. The postage-stamp design on each label reflects the country of origin.

Diamond Distillery in Guyana also uses historic stills from distilleries that have since closed. These include wooden stills named Port Mourant and Enmore. This variety of equipment makes it possible to produce different distillate styles within one distillery.
