Finishing in former Rye-Bourbon casks from Barton 1792 shapes this release in the Dictador 2 Masters range. Colombian rums from the 1979 and 1982 vintages were selected and entrusted to the American partner for further maturation. The collaboration brings together Dictador’s long-aged stocks and Barton’s expertise in cask selection and maturation.

The 2022 edition is 40 years old and has a worldwide release of 150 bottles. The rum is offered at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in a premium box. Its character is distinctly fruit-led, combining cherry and apple with baked pastry notes and cinnamon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals warm cherry pie, red apples and polished leather. Pineapple and rhubarb add to the fruit notes, while white chocolate, raspberries and sultanas contribute sweet accents.
• Palate: Cherry stands out strongly on the palate. Juicy plums, figs and red apples combine with a light cinnamon note.
• Finish: Red fruit notes linger on the finish. A light touch of vanilla adds sweetness, while a hint of cola complements the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dictador’s history is rooted in Destilería Colombiana, founded in 1913 by the grandfather of its current Master Blender, Hernan Parra. Parra carries forward the family’s expertise in the third generation. Dictador uses concentrated sugarcane juice, known as sugarcane honey, as its raw material. Distillation takes place in both copper pot stills and a continuously operating steel column still. During maturation, the distillery replaces evaporation losses with rum from the same vintage to preserve the vintage designation.

For 2 Masters, Hernan Parra hands selected mature rums over to specialists from other wine and spirits houses, who oversee their further cask maturation. The collaboration with Barton is led by Drew Mayville, Master Blender and head of quality at Sazerac. Barton 1792 Distillery was founded in 1879 in Bardstown, Kentucky. Its grounds include 29 cask warehouses and the Tom Moore Spring. Its experience with American whiskey provides the foundation for this edition’s Rye-Bourbon finish.
