Special Features:

The Straight Rye finish brings together long-aged Colombian rum and American whiskey cask traditions in this 2 Masters edition. Dictador selected rums from the 1979 and 1982 vintages; at Barton 1792, they spent a further 45 months in a cask previously used for Straight Rye. Sweet and fruity notes sit alongside oak and rye spice.

Released in 2022 at 46%, the rum was bottled in 0.7-litre bottles. Only 150 bottles were produced, presented in a black premium box with gold detailing that reflects the character of this limited collaboration. Enjoyed neat and given a little time in the glass, it reveals its fruity, woody and spicy sides.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, cinnamon and crab apple jelly meet spicy oak and pronounced vanilla. Fresh ginger, a hint of barbecue smoke, and notes of new leather and suede round out the aroma.
• Palate: The rum is full-bodied on the palate, with plenty of cedar-like oak. Strawberry jam and cinnamon-dusted apple pastry mingle with creamy wheat notes and spicy rye.
• Finish: Rye spice lingers and warms through the long finish. Cinnamon remains present, while liquorice and chilli add further spicy accents.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dictador’s master blender Hernan Parra developed the 2 Masters project to give selected old Colombian rums further maturation in collaboration with specialists from other producers. Dictador makes its rum using sugarcane honey, a long-maintained house yeast culture, and both column and pot still distillation.

The partner for this edition is Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Founded in 1879, it is one of the city’s oldest distilleries still in operation. Its master blender Drew Mayville contributed his experience with whiskey casks to the collaboration and oversaw the further maturation at Barton of the rum selected by Dictador.
