Special Features:

Two different finishes shape this Enmore from Rum Nation's Rare Rums series. Distilled from molasses in 1997 in the wooden Enmore Coffey Still, the rum underwent 23 years of continental maturation. One of the two components of the same age received a four-year sherry cask finish, while the other spent three and a half years finishing in a whisky cask. Rum Nation blended the two rums and bottled this small release in 2020 at a cask strength of 57.6%. The release comprises 670 bottles.

The sherry cask adds raisins and ripe dates to the rum's dry underlying character, while the whisky cask contributes a subtle hint of peat. Cinnamon, cloves, camphor and wax notes broaden the spicy profile. Fruity sweetness contrasts with a robust structure and dry cask notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is dry and spicy. Leather, wood, iodine and banana mingle with citrus notes and a light hint of nutmeg.
• Palate: On the palate, the high alcohol strength makes itself felt first, followed by a very dry cask note. The mouthfeel is oily. Woody notes and anise combine with banana, esters, vanilla, tannin and orange, complemented by tropical fruit and roasted notes. Pepper, cloves and nutmeg eventually lead into a sweetness reminiscent of sultanas.
• Finish: The long finish reveals citrus, wood, floral notes and vanilla, alongside hints of cardboard, earth and tobacco. Whisky and peat notes also remain perceptible. Dry cask notes and sweetness alternate repeatedly throughout the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Distillation took place in 1997 at Demerara Distillers Limited's Uitvlugt Distillery. At the time, the wooden Enmore Coffey Still operated there, having been moved to Uitvlugt after Enmore closed in 1994. Following Uitvlugt's closure in 1999, it was relocated to Diamond. Known as EHP, the still originated at the Enmore Sugar Estate and has produced rum since 1880. It is the last fully operational wooden continuous Coffey Still of its kind. Its wooden construction contributes to the distinctive profile of the rums it produces.

Rum Nation was established in 1999 under Fabio Rossi as a range of independently selected rums from different countries of origin. The regions of origin have shaped the label designs from the outset. The bottler's work includes selecting rums, overseeing their further maturation and managing their casks. The Rare Rums series develops this approach through small releases, named distilleries and individually numbered bottles.
