Flor de Caña Gran Reserva matures for seven years in former bourbon casks made of American oak at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano. The tropical warmth encourages interaction between the rum and the cask wood. This maturation brings together the approachable, rounded character of this bottling and gentle woody notes.

The rum contains no added sugar or colouring. Its caramel and toffee-like aromas therefore do not indicate sweetening after production. At 37.5%, Gran Reserva can be enjoyed neat or used in classic rum cocktails. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla and caramel mingle with mature wood. A hint of cocoa adds to the aromatic profile.
• Palate: Toffee, dried fruit and restrained spice shape the palate; the texture is soft and the overall impression rounded.
• Finish: The medium-length finish remains mild, with gentle woody notes and a sweet aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Flor de Caña began in 1890, when Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa laid the foundations of the rum house at the foot of San Cristóbal. The family business is now run by the fifth generation. Its sugarcane fields, distillery and maturation warehouses are on its own estate near Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.

Flor de Caña matures its rums in bourbon casks assembled by hand in its own cooperage. Energy supply and the use of by-products are also part of its production approach: distillation runs entirely on renewable energy, while the CO₂ generated during fermentation is captured and reused. Solar energy powers the bottling process.
