Honey Batcher Double Origin brings together white molasses rums from Australia and Jamaica, with no cask maturation to alter their character. Pot-still spirits form the backbone, complemented by a column-still component. The blend is bottled at 58% without chill filtration or colouring and contains no dosage.

The blend combines 40% Australian pot-still rum from Killik with 60% Jamaican rum from Hampden, Worthy Park and Clarendon. The Jamaican component brings together high- and low-ester spirits, with Clarendon supplying the lighter column-still component. The emphasis is therefore on the interplay of different distillation styles rather than on a single distillery. This bottling is designed as a permanently available addition to Honey Batcher's existing single-cask rums.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose evokes strawberry-and-cream sweets and tropical fruit, accompanied by mineral and grassy accents. Jammy strawberry, a hint of vanilla, herbs and lacquer-like ester notes round out the aromas.
• Palate: Green banana, lychee and Jamaican funk initially lead on the palate. Red fruit and strawberry become more prominent on the mid-palate. The texture is oily, the sweetness noticeable and the alcohol well integrated; overall, the berries are less pronounced than on the nose.
• Finish: The long finish remains fruity and subtly sweet. Eucalyptus, lively citrus notes and a delicate grassiness lend it freshness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Honey Batcher is the label of Fabian Hess, who runs the specialist spirits retailer SpiritBomb and the LiQ Bar in Düsseldorf. His label began with single-cask rums, and Double Origin expands that concept with an unaged blend as a regular bottling. The brand name plays on the English name of the honey badger.

The Australian component is produced by the family-run Killik distillery in Belgrave, Victoria. Wild fermentation is part of its approach, creating the ester-rich character known in the rum world as hogo. Killik thus brings a production style traditionally associated with Jamaica to Australian soil.
