Special Features:

Fût N°65 comes from Karukera's first cask maturation, begun in 2006. This Rhum Vieux Agricole from Guadeloupe spent eleven years in French oak cask 65. During a visit, Luca Gargano discovered the last remaining cask from that first maturation and selected the rum for this edition. Karukera bottled it at its natural cask strength of 48.3%, without chill filtration.

The edition includes a numbered crystal decanter and a presentation box made from solid oak and natural cork. Maison Linea designed the box to resemble the cross-section of a rum cask. Leather straps and a small accompanying booklet complete the presentation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, very ripe pineapple and banana combine with nutmeg and woody notes. Candied orange, sugarcane and further spice notes add to the aromas.
• Palate: The rum is generous on the palate, with very ripe tropical and yellow fruit, spices and cocoa beans. Woody notes accompany the other flavours without overwhelming them. A warm sensation, mild spices and mineral notes also emerge.
• Finish: The finish is long-lasting and fresh.

Distillery/Bottler:

Longueteau fermented the sugarcane juice and distilled it at Distillerie Espérance on the Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. Karukera took over the fresh distillate and matured it on the estate. Selection and bottling of this edition took place at Karukera.

Grégoire Hayot founded Karukera in 2005 with the aim of specialising in the maturation of aged rums. The rum house is located in Capesterre Belle-Eau on Guadeloupe, and French oak shapes its cask maturation work. Longueteau handles the preceding production stages, using baker's yeast for fermentation and a stainless-steel Creole column with 28 plates for distillation. Karukera then focuses on the development of the distillate during maturation.
