Malecon Gran Reserva 8 Años combines eight years of cask maturation with versatility in the glass. The rum matures in Panama in former bourbon casks made from American white oak. Its mild, spicy profile, with vanilla, fruit, coffee and chocolate, makes it suitable not only for sipping neat but also as a base for a Cuba Libre or Mai Tai.

This bottling has an alcohol content of 40% and contains 0.7 litres. It is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, spice combines with exotic fruit and nutty hints. Coffee and sweet chocolate then emerge.
• Palate: On the palate, exotic fruit and the sweetness of vanilla meet spicy notes. Gentle coffee and chocolate tones complement this balanced combination.
• Finish: The finish is rounded and full of flavour, with caramel notes lingering in the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Marco Savio is the person behind the Malecon brand. When he joined the family business in 1990, its activities included liqueur production and coffee importing. Trips to Central American coffee plantations introduced him to the world of rum. Over ten years, he deepened his knowledge alongside rum masters in Cuba, Guatemala and Panama. In 2000, he founded Malecon and worked with master distillers to develop rums using his own recipes; the initial range comprised five bottlings.

Malecon is made in Panama from sugar-cane molasses following Cuban tradition. The sugar cane grows around the distillery and is harvested by hand. The molasses ferments slowly in open vats with naturally occurring airborne yeasts. The general production process includes diluting the spirit to 75% alcohol after distillation, then filling it into former bourbon casks for maturation.
