Maturation in Cognac casks followed by an Oloroso sherry finish distinguishes this rum from Marie-Galante. Distilled at Père Labat in 2017, it first spent five years in former Cognac casks in tropical conditions, then a further two years in Oloroso sherry casks.

Rum Nation bottled this seven-year-old rum in 2025 as part of its Small Batch Rare Rums series. Casks 291 and 292 yielded 646 bottles worldwide. Bottled at 55.4% without chill filtration or added colouring, the rum comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a presentation tube. Its golden colour has amber highlights.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense, fresh citrus notes sit alongside sweet dried fruit on the nose. Wine-like accents, subtle spices and delicate oak spice add to the aromas, accompanied by a sherry-like sweetness.
• Palate: The rum is powerful and lively on the palate. Raisins, dates and plums mingle with citrus, sugarcane and tropical fruit. Spices, wine-like notes and restrained oak complement the fruity sweetness.
• Finish: The long, warm finish feels creamy and leaves a subtle wine-like aftertaste. Dried fruit and spice linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Père Labat is produced by Distillerie Poisson near Grand-Bourg on Marie-Galante. The estate originally produced sugar, and remnants of the former sugar factory survive today. Following changes in the local sugar industry, Edouard Rameaux purchased the estate and acquired a still and a copper Creole distillation column. The name Père Labat recalls Jean-Baptiste Labat and his contribution to the distillation of fermented sugarcane juice. The small distillery continues to work with well-maintained older machinery.

Rum Nation is the independent bottler behind this edition. Fabio Rossi founded the brand in 1999, focusing on selecting and tasting rums from different origins. His discovery of old rum casks from Guyana and Jamaica in a Scottish whisky warehouse provided the inspiration. In November 2018, the Danish company Mac Y Group A/S acquired the brand. Rossi & Rossi continues to produce on behalf of the new owner, while Fabio Rossi remains involved as an adviser. The geographical diversity of rum production is a central theme of the range: Rum Nation presents rums from Guyana, Panama and Barbados alongside bottlings from rum-producing regions with a French heritage. For this edition, the spirit comes from Père Labat, while Rum Nation is responsible for the bottling.
