Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 brings together rums of different ages through the solera process. Maturation takes place in former bourbon casks, and blending the spirits combines their different maturation characteristics. This method originated in sherry and brandy production and continues to shape Matusalem's flagship rum.

The rum combines a creamy character with coffee and caramel notes and spicy wood accents. Its colour ranges from mahogany to amber and golden highlights. It can be enjoyed neat or used in classic cocktails and recipes of your own. The bottle has a beige label featuring a historical map and contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol. Gift packaging is not included.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and cloves define the nose, accompanied by caramel, honey and toasted oak notes.
• Palate: Dark caramel and strong coffee take centre stage on the palate. Honey sweetness and roasted notes complement the full-bodied flavour, while wood and gentle spice remain persistently present.
• Finish: The long finish is dry and delicately spicy. Vanilla and caramel linger as soft nuances.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ron Matusalem's roots lie in Santiago de Cuba. By 1872, Spanish immigrant Pablo Nonell already owned a distillery there and was applying the solera process used in sherry and brandy production to rum. In 1888, he registered the swallow as the brand's symbol; that same year, his nephews Enrique and Benjamin Camp took over the company. The Álvarez family later assumed leadership.

After the family left Cuba and made several attempts to rebuild the company, Claudio Álvarez Salazar began reviving Matusalem in the 1990s. He chose production facilities in the Dominican Republic, where the rum is made today. The recipe preserved within the family for generations, together with cask maturation and blending, remains the foundation of the brand. Gran Reserva 15 holds the position of the original flagship within the range.
