Special features: The Planteray Barbados Rum 5 years undergoes a unique "Double-Aging" process: First, it matures for 3 to 4 years in former bourbon barrels under tropical climate in Barbados. This is followed by an additional aging of 1 to 2 years in used cognac barrels made of French oak at the Château de Bonbonnet in the Cognac region of France.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Lush aromas of brown sugar, honey, dark caramel, and roasted almonds, accompanied by notes of pipe tobacco and grilled marshmallows. With some air, savory hints of bacon and smoked meat as well as dried fruits like currants and plums unfold.
- Palate: Bittersweet with caramelized onion notes, complemented by fine toast and biscuit aromas. As it develops, roasted notes and fruity accents of baked fruit dominate, underscored by a slight resinous quality.
- Finish: Medium to long, bittersweet with a hint of chocolate, providing an elegant and balanced finish.
Distillery/Bottler: The Planteray Barbados Rum is produced by the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) in Barbados. Since 2017, WIRD has been part of Maison Ferrand, a renowned French company known for its high-quality spirits.
